On Our Doorstep

Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells has a bit of everything. A wide, sandy beach, the quay with boats coming and going, and shops worth a wander when you’ve got the time. It’s the sort of place you can take at your own pace, with something to see whichever way you turn.

Wells-Next-The-Sea

A wide, sandy beach backed by pinewoods and rows of colourful huts. It’s about a mile from the quay, with a steady walk or hop-on bus to get you there. The harbour itself is always moving – fishing boats, sailing trips and people crabbing along the edge.

Holkham

One of the most open stretches of coast in the country. You’ll walk through pinewoods and over dunes before the beach opens out. It’s big, flat and often quiet once you’re away from the entrance. Good for long walks, dogs, and a bit of space to yourself. (Images via Visit North Norfolk)

Burnham Ovary Staithe

A coastal path walk that feels properly off the beaten track. From the harbour, the route follows the creek out towards the sea, with boats, marshes and birdlife all around. It’s about a 45-minute walk to the beach, and worth it for the peace and views.

Blakeney

A working harbour with a steady flow of boats and people heading out to Blakeney Point. Seal trips leave regularly, and the quay is a good place to sit and watch it all. Small shops and cafés line the front, making it easy to spend a relaxed few hours. (Images via Visit North Norfolk)

Brancaster

A large, open beach known for its big tides and far-reaching views. At low tide, the sand stretches right out, with channels of water and plenty of space for walking or paddling. There’s a car park close by, so it’s an easy one if you don’t fancy a long walk in. (Images via Visit North Norfolk)

Bring The Dog Along

Dogs are part of things here. Water bowls by the door, a bit of space under the table, and no fuss made about it. After a day out on the coast, they’re just as welcome to come in, settle down and stay the night as you are.
