Each autumn/winter we hold a series of fascinating talks in aid of a local charity. This year's Talk of Wells is in aid of the National Coastwatch Institution, Wells Lookout. Staffed 365 days of the year by volunteers, the Wells Coastwatch team watch over the tidal Outer Harbour Channel used by all vessels entering the port including twelve inshore fishing boats, local leisure sailors, a busy sailing school, windsurfers, water skiers as well as the busy Outer Harbour used by the windfarm support vessels. They also watch over the beach, the tidal area of Bob Halls Sand and have a distant view of the Rotterdam to Hull east coast shipping lane.
We kick off this season of talks on Monday, 15 October with Pamela Abbott, new Chief Executive of Norfolk Wildlife Trust. Pamela was formerly the director of programmes at the UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre, where she was responsible for the centre’s international conservation projects. She has also undertaken a variety of senior roles with the UK’s government advisory body for the environment, Natural England. Most recently as area manager for Norfolk and Suffolk where her team managed 15 National Nature Reserves including Scolt Head Island and Dersingham Bog in Norfolk. She will be talking about her 'rather wild adventure'!
So, join us on specific Mondays through the Autumn and Winter when a special menu of two courses and a glass of wine will be served for £23.50. We will donate £5.00 to the fund for every person eating. Come and enjoy talks from the men and women who will talk with passion about their lives and adventures.
