19 Nov 2018
Tonight's talk was with Caroline Jarrold. Caroline is the Community Affairs Adviser at Jarrold's in Norwich. Jarrold's the business, are heavily involved in the community and raise a huge amount of money for different charities and associations. Caroline is a former Chairman of VisitNorwich and the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and a Director of The Forum Trust. She is also a Deputy Lieutenant for Norfolk. Her talk was largely about the history of Jarrold's from its foundation through all the 7 generations of Jarrold's running the department store and printing works and how they really are a key part of the wonderful and extraordinary community of Norfolk.

Each autumn/winter we hold a series of fascinating talks in aid of a local charity. This year's Talk of Wells is in aid of the National Coastwatch Institution, Wells Lookout. Staffed 365 days of the year by volunteers, the Wells Coastwatch team watch over the tidal Outer Harbour Channel used by all vessels entering the port including twelve inshore fishing boats, local leisure sailors, a busy sailing school, windsurfers, water skiers as well as the busy Outer Harbour used by the windfarm support vessels. They also watch over the beach, the tidal area of Bob Halls Sand and have a distant view of the Rotterdam to Hull east coast shipping lane.
