Our final Talk of Wells was a massive success with Libby Purves giving us a fabulous talk about her life, career and experiences with Radio 4's Midweek. It was fascinating hearing about the well-loved radio show, about how one week she might be in conversation with a bishop, a strip tease artist and an astro-physicist who collects cockroaches and the following week it might be a palaeontologist, a wing walker and an opera singer! She upset us all at one point when she told us the sad news that her programme has been axed after presenting it for 33 years - what will Wednesday mornings at 9am be like in the future? Who knows, but what we do know is that Libby was a tremendous speaker. It was the culmination of a season of talks fundraising for the Well United Charities and we were delighted to be able to give Cheryl Crawford the Chairman of the charity a cheque for £4,500. So thanks to all our speakers and for all our lovely Wells audience members, many who have come to virtually every talk!
